Physician charges for hospital care will show on your blue CLINIC billing statement. Your green HOSPITAL statement will show a separate balance due for all other services and supplies from Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. (This is due to differences in regulated billing requirements.) The Hospital will bill you for room, lab, x-ray and nursing services. The Clinic will bill for the professional charges — these are the physician’s charge.
Charges are billed based on the type and complexity of the care you received. The amount you owe may include balances that your insurance company has not responded to within 45 days. It may also include insurance deductibles, non-covered services or items, co-payments, co-insurance, or balances due after insurance has paid on a charge.
Each insurance company has the right to determine their payment amount, which is sometimes called “usual and customary.” We do not accept usual and customary allowances as determined by private insurances as payment in full. These balances will be your responsibility. We will provide any additional documentation, when appropriate, to help process your claim for maximum benefit.
As a courtesy, we will file a claim to your insurance. Once we receive notice that your claim has been processed, we will mail a statement like the one to the right that shows the balance due after insurance payments. If your insurance company does not respond directly to us within an appropriate time frame, 45 days, you will receive an itemized statement showing the full amount due since we do not yet know what your insurance will cover.
