The first and most lasting impression our residents and medical students have about the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation's Medical Education program is that they love to teach. Most came here because of the opportunity and challenge of working one-on-one with doctors in training. Our Medical & Dental Staff of more than 400 represents nearly every specialty and serves a 19 county region of Western Wisconsin, Southeast Minnesota, and Northeast Iowa.
Our fully accredited Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Podiatric Medicine & Surgery and Transitional Year Residency Programs offer a balance of primary, tertiary, inpatient, and outpatient medicine. The flexibility of our programs allows us to tailor programs to best meet your educational needs and goals.

Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation
Associate Dean for Western Academic Campus
University of Wisconsin Medical School
| Gundersen Lutheran is the Western Academic Campus for the University of Wisconsin Medical School. The challenging environment of a research and teaching facility allows us to bring leading-edge medical knowledge and technology to the Tri-state Region. Our physicians, nurses, therapists and counselors are all teachers — sharing their expertise with resident and student doctors, student nurses, paramedics and other health professionals. That keeps them all at the peak of their profession.
Every one of our medical and dental specialists is a teacher and their enthusiasm for this role is obvious. We view teaching as an opportunity to influence the next generation of practitioners and to constantly improve the quality of patient care. This philosophy translates into a superb learning environment at the bedside, in the operating room, in resident continuity clinics, in hallway consultations, in journal clubs and formal lectures and conferences held at least twice daily.
In addition, the Clinic, Foundation, and Hospital were founding partners of the La Crosse Health Science Consortium, an alliance of La Crosse’s health and education institutions to develop educational programs in the health sciences. Already the alliance has resulted in a new physician assistant program and master’s degree program in microbiology. The ability of these medical and educational institutions to work cooperatively and blend academic and practical experiences has been described as "one incredible partnership limited only by our imaginations." |
