Heartfelt songs written by those who’ve been touched by
cancer and life-threatening illnesses

Music soothes the soul in ways love and laughter may even fall short. That’s one of the reasons Gundersen Lutheran embraces music therapy and offers programming to patients in the Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders as well as Hospice.

Gundersen Lutheran music therapist, Amy Schaack MT-BC, is leading an exciting project that highlights 27 songs written by Gundersen Lutheran patients and caregivers whose lives have been touched by cancer or a life-threatening illness. The songs have been compiled onto two CDs with an album title, “Hope Grows: Hope Lives for Today. Hope Grows for Tomorrow.”

This two-disc album features diverse songwriters, including patients of all ages, parents, siblings, caregivers, as well as support group members. Amy helped these individuals write song lyrics, compose melodies to match the message of their stories and record the music.

While each song is unique, they all have a common theme of hope, love, appreciation, faith and will to live. This album is the perfect example of human expression of emotion. Anyone who has experienced an unexpected event in life, especially a life-threatening illness such as cancer, would find this CD to be uplifting and motivational. There are songs on this CD that will move you, and make you laugh, cry and smile.

The CD includes a booklet of lyrics as well as photos and heartfelt dedications for each song. All proceeds go toward music therapy and programming to support the social and emotional needs of Gundersen Lutheran cancer and hospice patients.
