Donation support for the International Society of Advance Care Planning and End of Life Care
Advance care planning (ACP) is becoming an increasingly important part of the health care for our patients. ACP facilitates more patient-centered care, improves quality of care, and increases both patient and family satisfaction with the care provided, especially near the end of life. With advances in medical technology that can prolong life, coupled with increasing patient autonomy, advance care planning has become a significant part of the healthcare process. Individual hospital programs have been implemented worldwide, that train healthcare professionals to effectively guide patients and to provide support to them and their family members.
In 2011, the International Society of Advance Care Planning and End of Life Care was formed to lead the world in generating peer‐to‐peer discussions on advance care planning. Developing the cause of one of the most crucial areas of public health on a worldwide platform, the International Society of Advance Care Planning and End of Life Care brings together a unique range of professions who assist patients with making decisions on their treatment before they reach a point in their lives when they can’t make informed choices.
The idea of this international society was inspired by the exciting collaboration between like-minded people that arose during the preparation for the Inaugural International Conference on Advance Care Planning held in Melbourne, Australia in April 2010. In 2011, the 2nd International Conference was held in London, UK and the 3rd International Conference is being convened in Chicago on May 31-June 2, 2012.
Donation support from individuals or organisations will help contribute towards the Society’s objectives:
- Promoting universal access to quality advance care planning
- Promoting excellence in care for people near the end of life
- Promoting the provision of physical, psycho-emotional and spiritual care in the context of advance care planning and end of life care.
Donations can be made through Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit, and major sponsor of the upcoming conference in the Chicago area.
Each charitable gift, whatever its size, makes the giver a partner in the work of International Society of Advance Care Planning and End of Life Care. Each accomplishment is made possible through generous involvement in our cause.
