Gundersen Lutheran Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders offers the same leading-edge care as other major cancer centers across the country. The Center has built a reputation for proven quality, high patient satisfaction, expert specialists, superior technical support, sophisticated treatments and state-of-the-art technology. But don’t just take our word for that…
Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center and Gundersen Clinic, Ltd. are both accredited by The Joint Commission.
Gundersen Lutheran is also accredited by the American College of Surgeons as an approved Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program. Gundersen Lutheran is one of 12 institutions in Wisconsin with this rating.
The American College of Surgeons awarded Gundersen Lutheran an Outstanding Achievement Award from its Commission on Cancer (CoC). The award was given to only 18 percent of all cancer care facilities surveyed for accreditation last year—that’s only 82 facilities nationwide.
Since only 40 percent of cancer programs across the United States receive accreditation from the CoC, Gundersen Lutheran ranks at the high end of an already select group of facilities offering state-of-the-art cancer care.
The CoC sets standards for cancer care facilities, evaluates their resources and quality of care, and studies patterns of patient care and outcomes. Receiving care at a CoC-accredited cancer program ensures that patients have access to:
- Comprehensive care including a range of state-of-the-art services and equipment
- A multispecialty team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
- Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
- Cancer-related information, education and support
- A cancer registry of data on type and stage of cancers and treatment results
- Ongoing monitoring and improvement of care
As an Active Institutional Member of the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC), Gundersen Lutheran supports association efforts to promote the continuum of quality cancer care: research, prevention, screening, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, psycho-social services, rehabilitation and hospice.
Gundersen Lutheran Radiation Oncology, a proven leader in this discipline, has been accredited since 2002 by the American College of Radiology. The department is one of 171 facilities in the United States that have earned this designation since 1986. ACR accreditation hallmarks quality of care for physicians and patients choosing the right place for radiation therapy, an integral part of state-of-the-art cancer care. Gundersen Lutheran's radiation therapy team ranks with the best in the country for its approach to care emphasizing quality assurance and quality improvement programs as well as patient satisfaction. (The nearest alternative ACR-accredited facilities are in St. Cloud, Minn., and eastern Wisconsin.)
The screening mammography section of the Norma J. Vinger Center for Breast Care is also ACR-accredited. Gundersen Lutheran is an active institutional member of the Association of Community Cancer Centers.
