Going to the Operating Room

The people from the operating room will come to get you for your surgery. You can say “see you later” to your family and they will wait for you in the waiting room.
There will be lots of people with you in the operating room so you won’t ever have to be by yourself.
They will help you move off your hospital bed onto the operating table. You will see big, white, bright lights above you. It might be a little cold in there so they will give you a nice warm blanket.
A nurse will put a seatbelt across your stomach.
They will put a special sticker on your finger. This will tell them how you are breathing during surgery.
Some stickers will be put on your chest so they can watch how your heart is beating during surgery.
The blood pressure cuff will go on your arm. It also tells them how your heart is beating.
The nurse anesthetist will put a soft, clear mask over your mouth and nose. Some special medicine will blow through it to help get you to sleep for your surgery.
