Going to the Operating Room

When they are ready, the people from the operating room will come to get you for your surgery. You can say see you later to mom or dad and they will wait for you in the waiting room.
There will be lots of people with you in the operating room so you won’t ever have to be by yourself.
You will have to move off your hospital bed onto the operating table. You will see big, white, bright lights above you and it might be a little cold in there so they will give you a nice warm blanket.
Someone will put a seatbelt across your stomach so that you don’t roll off the operating table.
They will put a sticker on your finger again. This will tell them how you are breathing during surgery.
They will put some stickers on your chest so they can watch how your heart is beating during surgery.
They will also put a blood pressure cuff on your arm. The blood pressure cuff also tells them how your heart is beating.
When they are ready to start your surgery, a member of the anesthesia team will put a soft, clear mask over your mouth and nose. Some special medicine will blow thru it to help get you to sleep for your surgery.
