When children have trouble seeing, it affects more than just their vision. It can also affect their learning and development. That’s why it is important for children to have a comprehensive eye exam to test for conditions such as strabismus, nearsightedness, farsightedness, amblyopia and rare eye conditions. Gundersen Lutheran’s pediatric eye care team provides routine and specialty care for children in the La Crosse area and surrounding communities.

Some common symptoms can make it easy to notice eye problems. The symptoms can include:

  • Crossed eyes
  • Blurred vision, especially when reading
  • Eye strain
  • Double vision

But, some vision problems may be overlooked because the child seems to be able to see fine, does not complain about his or her eyes, or has even passed a school vision screening. Some common symptoms can help indicate a vision problem may be a contributing factor, including:

  • Headache
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Problems finding place when reading

Children need a complete eye exam to rule out certain eye conditions. If only a couple tests are used, other eye conditions could be overlooked. To schedule a comprehensive eye exam, contact your Gundersen Lutheran eye clinic. Click here to find the clinic near you.
